Home Invasion: In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall Wikipedia

The remaining works are culled from his previous albums. However, the film footage includes pans, zooms, special effects, mood lighting, trippy superimposed scenes and animations on the big screen behind the band, often paralleling the musical storylines. It all instills movement and theatrics to complement the ensemble's colorful stage presence.

Here, the ensemble links a memorable theme with lament and vibrancy. Otherwise, Holzman's meaty Moog solo mimics a human dialogue as Hutchings scorching sustain lines add some bite and impact. This concert recording captures the last show of the three-night run in the historic London venue from March this year, as Steven Wilson was coming to the end of his European To The Bone tour. Wilson, in collaboration with director James Russell and film editor Tom Woolcott, has achieved something far greater, something far more cinematic.

The staging and visuals are great, and the cinematography is vastly more exciting than typical concert videos. But then, Wilson has always produced fantastic concert videos that really immerse you in the experience and truly bring the concert to your living room. Very late and out of touch…hi John, long time and I missed you.

With so many artists flooding the market with concert videos these days, it's a given that there are plenty of opportunities to see the band in action throughout Home Invasion. But given Wilson's love of film and image, it should come as no surprise that Home Invasion is more than "just" a document of a particularly strong performance. Together, as a quintet, this may be Wilson's best, most empathic and compelling group yet, made all the more so now that, with Hutchings also singing background vocals alongside Beggs, he's got more voices to work with onstage.

This album, like the last PT album, seem to have been recorded with multichannel mixes in mind. With the realization that there will always be more music coming at him than he can keep up with, John wonders why anyone would think that jazz is dead or dying. Most surprising, perhaps, is how much Wilson's career has evolved since 2009, with his overall reach continuing to grow in virtually every way. Successive tours have moved to larger halls, his 2011 show in Montréal, Canada filling a venue less than a third the size of the hall he filled to near-capacity in November this year. Wilson continues his tour with dates in North America beginning Nov, 15th in Vancouver and doing 5 dates throughout Florida, before ending in San Antonio, TX on Dec 21st.

Just in time for the holidays, Home Invasionbelongs in the pile of gifts for every fan of progressive and melodic rock. And, hey, don’t get me wrong—I love Wilson’s solo band, too. Adam Holzman on keyboards, Nick Beggs on bass, Craig Blundell on drums, and Alex Hutchings on guitar, are all extraordinary musicians, and they do a fantastic job bringing this huge body of work from Wilson’s catalog to life, sounding as close to studio perfection as you’d find in a Toto concert. Everything about this live collection is great, the visuals, the sounds, the way it is filmed, the incredible band, the set list. It is simply a brilliant celebration of one of music’s criminally under-appreciated talents. The CDs include the full soundtrack of the concert across two discs, while the vinyl box actually offers six extra tracks; three soundcheck songs (included as bonus content on the blu-ray/DVD) and three songs from the previous night’s performance .

Over the course of the next four years and two studio albums—2013's The Raven That Refused To Sing and 2015's concept album, Hand. —Wilson continued to grow his audience, attracting not just those who'd been following his career for years, but entirely new demographics as well. All About Jazz has been a pillar of jazz since 1995, championing it as an art form and, more importantly, supporting the musicians who create it. Our enduring commitment has made "AAJ" one of the most culturally important websites of its kind, read by hundreds of thousands of fans, musicians and industry figures every month. The title track "Home Invasion" is formulated with a dynamic, in-your-face groove, as the audience claps along, firmed up by Blundell's thumping bass drum pulses and Holzman's steely electric piano chords.

Those last three weren’t performed at all during the filming, so are therefore exclusive to the vinyl. Wilson has, for the most part, managed to find and recruit musicians who always seem to achieve the kind of collaborative chemistry that eludes so many others. While undeniably different from those that came before, having two players who've been with Wilson from the start of his solo touring career has certainly helped with continuity. The CDs include the full soundtrack of the concert across 2 discs, while the fifth LP in the vinyl set additionally includes the 3 soundcheck songs as well as 3 songs taken from the previous night’s performance (How is Your Life Today?, Blackfield, and Postcard), again none of which were performed during the filming and are therefore exclusive to the vinyl. If every Wilson tour has ratcheted up the visuals, Home Invasion captures his most immersive performance yet.

It is inspired by the true story of Joyce Carol Vincent, who lived in London and died unnoticed in her apartment. The songs tend to build from a soft intro, weaving in and out of various rhythms and patterns without repeating. Once you’re hooked on a riff, it’s gone to the next catchy riff. Mr. Wilson told Audioholics in our interview that he received his new custom built Mellotron last year.

As you’d expect from the 5.1 mixing maestro, the blu-ray and DVD offer 5.1 surround mixes of the concert (those who attended these shows experienced a ‘4D sound’ performance). Tour, and who has managed the unenviable challenge of following Wilson's first touring drummer, Marco Minnemann. A massively virtuosic drummer with a distinctive approach, that Wilson was able to find another drummer who could be described the same way while, at the same time, possessed of his own musical personality and ability to embrace the existing chemistry was another feat in itself.

Proudly featuring classic rock icons like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Grateful Dead, The Who, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Home Invasion captures the final night of my three night March 2018 residency at what is probably my favourite venue in the world, the Royal Albert Hall in London. The full performance is included, and it looks and sounds absolutely fantastic, everyone involved working incredibly hard to make this a really high quality release in all departments, and to capture the visual elements of the show . Bonus material consists of 3 additional songs not part of the main show filmed in the empty venue during the afternoon soundcheck, as well as interview / backstage footage. The Story So Far – DVD Review

Listening to the music without singing really highlights the musicianship, talent and amazing progressions found in each song. Based on the direction of his music, which brought together influences from a multitude of musical styles that was, in itself, a rare thing, Wilson found an unexpected nexus of fans. Hardcore progressive rock fans loved his often-times complex compositions, filled with breathtaking solo space rendered all the more impressive by his occasionally shifting lineup of virtuosic supporting musicians. But Wilson was also drawing in an increasing number of fans attracted to his unequivocally lyrical disposition, not to mention those captivated by the metal elements brought to bear on his solo records, and which he first explored in greater depth across Porcupine Tree's new millennium releases. Wilson even released a compilation, Transience , intended as an introduction to his music via his more readily approachable music, including a new version of the pop-friendly "Lazarus," first heard on Porcupine Tree's Deadwing . Forty years ago, tours were almost always in support of a new album, as the greater percentage of an artist's income was driven by album sales, with tours often actually losing money, even if they attracted large crowds.

After spending over twenty years as the driving force behind Porcupine Tree, he made the seemingly risky move of going solo with 2009's Insurgentes . In some ways it was an odd move, given that Porcupine Tree ostensibly began as a solo project, with Wilson collaborating, in only its very earliest years with Malcolm Stocks, and Porcupine Tree only becoming a full-fledged group when album sales demanded he put a band together to take his music on the road. The program is heightened by guitarist Alex Hutching's climactic soloing sprees, awash with upper-register extended notes and flickering single note leads, and drummer Craig Blundell's polyrhythmic time-keeping in addition to his snappy backbeats. With that, the musicians display a little flash, balanced with hummable melodic content and sterling musicianship, tantalizing hooks, tricky time signatures and straight-four burners. Instead, while absolutely managing to achieve both these things, the film does so much more. It employs motivic invention, such as capturing a particularly concentrated close-up of Wilson's face, only to then cut to similar perspectives of his band mates, or using camera angles to explore unusual perspectives.
